Route Overview

This is a stunning scenic gravel road winding through open rolling tussock land following the Nevis River for a good portion of the road. A few river crossings add to the character of the road plus it has some magic high altitude views, a highly recommended route.

Access is normally closed from the first Tuesday in June to 30th September. In the open periods, it can however be inaccessible/closed at times of snow or high river levels caused by rain or snowmelt, you can check with DOC for the status

Rivers and streams in this area can flood quickly after heavy rain and become too dangerous to ford. Flash floods are also possible. It is not recommended to attempt this route around periods of heavy rain or heavy snow melt.

This route can be considered remote. When riding this route you should be carrying a comprehensive toolkit, spares and the knowledge to preform trailside repairs in case of mechanical issues.
