Karamea Trip - November 2015
Work is ridiculously busy, ridiculous I tell ya, but I have managed to get enough work cleared to head away on the bike; albeit carrying the laptop to squeeze in some work along the way.
So it's off and heading towards the West Coast with four items on the agenda (1) set some Mototokens in the Karamea area (2) ride and log K Road for RemoteMoto which has recently been opened up by DOC (3) ride and check out a private access track for one of the riding/fishing guided trips and (4) get in some fly fishing.

From Christchurch all the way to Maruia it was wet, windy and cold. Before I left I knew the weather was going to be fairly average on the east of the Main Divide so extra layers kept me toasty warm. From Maruia on the rain eased up, the clouds periodically parted to let the sun peak through and the temperature rose to 18ish and it was quite pleasant

Looking back on the thick clouds from where I'd come

Many of the hills still showing windfall scars from the Easter storm in 2014

I spent over 10 hours making my way to Karamea, there was lots of heading down sidetracks and walking up streams/rivers checking out old fishing spots. It was nice to see a good number of fish around =)

Walking through beautiful West Coast bush

A fish swinging and feeding in the cuff of a pool. Can you see em?

In spite of the heavy clouds around, the Buller River was running quite clear

Nearing Karamea I hit thick cloud but rain refrained from falling and it was a pleasant ride along the coastline and twisting up and over the Karamea Bluffs into Karamea
