High Country Social Ride
Initially I’d planned a weekend ride up a High Country river to log a section for a Exploration Route but an invite to group ride came up so I thought I’d take the more social option and meet a few new faces. I’m glad I did as it was a cracker weekend, great riding with a great bunch of guys.
As with most trips, it didn’t go without its twists. Heading into a hut that normally poses no issues turned into quite a mission with recent rain making what was a fairly easy ride into a mud slide.

It looks innocent enough but this stretch was steep and crazy slippery, very hard to get the speed to clear the tyres

A rest was in order for the bike, continual clutch slipping had my poor girl steaming

The 990 had to have its front guard removed as the front tyre was packing with mud and sledding

After setting up base at a hut it was off for an evening ride

Day 2

Perfect weather mixed with exploring new routes made the next days ride the cream of the trip

After some exploring down by the river it was off to tackle a high altitude track, at 1320 metres the views were outstanding

After a good riding workout it was up and out of the valley and off to a pub for a feed
