Bulwer - Getting Remote in the Marlborough Sounds

This ride was part of a couple of days meandering 'round the Marlborough Sounds in October 2016. The road to Bulwer takes you past the peninsular to French Pass, and as far north as you can travel by public road in the Sounds i.e. without catching a ferry to D'Urville Island.

At this point you abandon the road to French Pass and continue eastward along Port Ligar Rd.
Noticed it was a little windy at this location, which was unlike other parts of the route that afternoon. Had me wondering how exposed this area could be in a decent gale.
Allow a bit of time to get there

Bulwer is on the eastern side of Turner Peak (Pelorous Sound side); that's the highest point on the horizon in this photo. The road takes you well over 400m above sea level before you get past Turner Peak and this rewards you with fabulous views looking west to French Pass and Rangitoto ki te Tonga / D'Urville Island.

Closer to Bulwer the road is a bit 'shabby' in parts. Sections like this could be a bit greasy in the wet. Ride to the conditions!
