High Country return route

Returning from a trip up to Karamea I chose a more interesting route home through Denniston, New Creek, Braeburn Track, Porika Road, Rainbow Road and spent a day fishing some High Country lakes and streams before heading back to Christchurch the following day. A few pics from the return journey...

Early the next morning a nearby glassy lake made for some prime sight fishing. A heavy caddisfly hatch (seen middle and right in this pic) had trout regularly taking from the surface

After four sighted takes resulting in hooks being shaken free success came in the form of a superb brown that had me running along the stream banks for quite some time before it came to the net

Later on in the day I watched this guy (centre of pic crouching) casting to a fish. A number of casts later he gave up and much to my amusement he threw a rock at the "uncatchable" fish and walked off!
