3 Day West Coast Adventure Ride
Including me, 5 KB riders met up in Maruia for a 3 day ADV ride on the West Coast. The weather forecast was for 3 days of rain but we ended up having a pretty good run with only a few mild showers adding up to all of under an hour over the whole 3 days. It didn’t go without a few hitches of course, but that’s what makes an adventure ride an adventure!

Arriving at Maruia to meet up with the Nelson boys. Two of them had mechanical issues and met up with us later that night at Big River so it was the 3 of us heading up Station Creek

The flats at the end of Station Creek have lots of places to catch you out

The next day after staying in Big River Hut, the morning brought a brief shower, but that soon passed and it stayed clear all day

The overnight rain pushed the rivers well up, there were 3 crossings to get back to the main track out, this was crossing #1, very swift

Testing the depth of crossing #2

Matts XR through crossing #2

Crossing #3 was pretty swift and hard to keep upright

The rest of the day was exploring a few nearby tracks courtesy of Paul (KB TrialsRider) most of which were slippery clay mud or steep loose rocks

Some of the sections were pretty rocky and steep... good fun!

Fueling up and heading to Ross

Ross pub put on a good meal for us, nice friendly owners telling us we're mad to try Mt Greenland in the winter

The next day Mt Greenland was attempted. The start was steep loose slippery rocky stuff

We made it up to sections of slippery hard packed clay

We didn't get too much further than this, we hit steep walls of slippery clay and moss that were almost impossible to stand on without ending up on your arse and sliding down the hill, let alone ride a bike up... definitely a summer track

The alternative was to go for a look up Totara Vallye Road, really nice scenic road, highly recommended

Lunch was fish and chips on the beach at Ross

Heading back home we took an old railway track route with most of the bridges still in tact, something a little different

Cheers to NordieBoy and JATZ for letting me use some of your images after my camera got drowned
